It would seem as though Louisiana has been birthing talent since the beginning of time, or at the very least since we were established as a state. Lake Charles, Louisiana serves as the anchor for Southwest Louisiana and has done quite well contributing to the pool of talent who has become known around the world. The newest addition to the names you should know and be proud to claim is Taja V. Simpson. As someone who carries multiple titles as an actress, director, and writer, Simpson graduated from LaGrange High School and is an alum of McNeese State University.
After fourteen years of living in Hollywood dedicated to pursuing her dream on being on the big screen an appearing on shows like ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’, ‘Tales’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’, ‘Real Husbands of Hollywood’, ‘Young and the Restless’ and countless others, God granted her prayer in a major way. Tyler Perry Studios cast Simpson as Tyler Perry’s ex-wife, “Debrah Simmons” in his latest blockbuster, ‘Tyler Perry’s Boo 2: A Madea Halloween’. The film was a great success during is opening week coming in at #1 in the world at the box office and continues to pull support from moviegoers.
Ms. Simpson spoke with Braylin Jenkins, aka ‘Bray J’ of Hey Bray J Today during the interview special and off camera shared that she had auditioned for Tyler Perry Studios 7 times prior to landing this role; talk about dedication. During the Q&A following the screening Ms. Simpson held with the public at Cinemark Theater, which she mentions during our interview, students from LaGrange who are active in the drama department asked questions along with the public, sharing their appreciation and admiration for Ms. Simpson as she continues to serve as a positive role model for all people, but especially young black women. Simpson will be the keynote speaker at the 2018 Junior Women’s Conference in April.
Simpson’s platform is about empowering young women and fighting bullying. She has partnered with the non-profit entitled “Team Bully Busters” Simpson’s new upcoming ‘How To’ book, “Cracking the Acting Code: A practical Step by Step Guide To becoming a Professional Actor” gives the gems on how to get started in Acting. Simpson recently landed the cover of ‘The Boss Mann’ and ‘The Voice of SWLA’ magazines.
