One of the most dynamic boy building platforms in the Big Easy is the ‘Son Of A Saint’ mentoring program. Each year, Son of a Saint selects a group of boys ages 10-13 to join the existing kids in their program. The boys must be fatherless due to their father’s incarceration, death, or abandonment. Each boy remains a Son of a Saint mentee until he is 18 and receives his college acceptance letter.
“We are looking for volunteer tutors,” expressed Rachel Bernstein, Education Advisor / Son of A Saint. “If you’re looking to become even more involved, we are also welcoming new mentors as our program expands.”
The organization is seeking individuals who are willing to donate an hour per week (flexible around your work schedule) to work with young boys to ensure they are in good academic standing. Bernstein says experience in Education is a plus but not necessarily needed.
Son of a Saint equips boys with the tools they need to become productive men. The organization provides a secure and consistent environment for the young men. The Son of a Saint mentors’ most important role is simply to be a good example.
Boys must maintain a minimum 2.7 GPA, complete four hours of community service each month, and maintain good conduct at home, school and within the Son of a Saint organization.
