(New Orleans) For the second time this season, the #7 Dillard Bleu Devils defeated the Xavier Gold Rush, this time at the 2017 Allstate Sugar Bowl Bleu Devil Classic by the score of 87-74 at the Battlefield in Dent Hall. The victory, which is win number 20 for the Bleu Devils this season, completes the season sweep over its crosstown rival.

The game, which was televised on WNOL 38 in New Orleans, was dominated by Dillard (20-6, 10-1 GCAC) for most of the afternoon. Dillard jumped out to a 43-26 lead at the half thanks to brilliant play from junior transfer Jalen McGaughy, who finished with a game-high 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight blocks in the victory while teammate senior power forward NAIA All-American Demetric Austin added 17 points and nine rebounds before fouling out of the game. McGaughy was a near-perfect 11-for-12 from the charity stripe.

As a team the Bleu Devils shot over 40 percent from the field and hit 11 3-pointers in the game while holding the Gold Rush to just 5-for-21 from behind the arc.

Xavier’s Jalen David finished with a team-high 18 points and four rebounds in the loss while teammate Seth Jackson scored 17 points for the Gold Rush.

This is the first time that both Bleu Devils and Lady Bleu Devils defeated Xavier in Dent Hall since 2001.
